Home / Safety & Quality

Safety And Quality Are Not Optional Extras

Everybody who arrives on a Sigma site goes home in the same condition, and nothing gets covered up before it has been inspected. Both of those are conditions of working with us.

01 Safety

Site Safety Policy

Construction is one of the most dangerous industries in the world, and most serious incidents trace back to something that was known about and tolerated. Our approach is to remove the tolerance. Supervisors are authorised to stop work, and are expected to.

  • Site risk assessment

Every project starts with a written risk assessment covering access, work at height, plant movement, services and public interface.

  • Method statements

High risk activities proceed only against an agreed method statement that the working crew has read and understood.

  • Daily briefings

Every crew starts the day with a short briefing on the tasks ahead, the hazards involved and the controls in place.

  • Personal protective equipment

Hard hats, high visibility clothing, eye protection and safety footwear are mandatory on all active sites, for staff and visitors alike.

  • Plant and equipment control

Plant is inspected and maintained on a schedule, and operated only by trained and authorised personnel.

  • Incident reporting

Every incident and near miss is recorded, investigated and used to change how we work. Near misses matter as much as injuries.

02 Quality

Quality Assurance

Quality is not a final inspection. It is a series of hold points where work stops, gets checked and gets signed off before the next trade covers it.

  • Inspection hold points

Work stops for inspection at defined stages: setting out, reinforcement, before concrete pours, before closing walls and at completion.

  • Materials verification

Materials are checked against specification on delivery, with certificates retained for structural and concrete elements.

  • Supervisor sign off

No element is covered, closed or paid for until a superintendent has inspected and signed it off.

  • Defect logging

Defects are logged with photographs, assigned to a trade with a date, and tracked until closed.

  • Handover documentation

Clients receive as built information, warranties, operating instructions and the full inspection record at completion.

03 Environment

Environmental Responsibility

We build on islands with limited land, limited landfill and a coastline that everything eventually drains into. That shapes how we run a site.

Waste management

Site waste is separated where practical and disposed of through licensed routes. Nothing leaves a Sigma site informally.

Water and runoff control

Silt, runoff and wash water are controlled so construction does not carry material into drainage systems or the sea.

Material durability

Specifying for salt air and humidity from the start reduces replacement cycles, which is the most meaningful environmental saving in island construction.

Local sourcing

Bahamian suppliers and Bahamian labour wherever the specification allows, keeping value in the local economy.
